Question about Calculus. What does it mean in the context of a sales problem if a function is concave up?
I've already found the interval on which the function's graph is concave up. I'm just having trouble figuring out what that means in the context of the problem.
The problem has to do with sales of a popular toy. I was only given the equation of the rate of sales (first derivative) and had to solve for the interval on which the original sales function graph is concave up. In the context of sales of the toy, what would this mean?
Concave up means that the first derivative is increasing. Depending on the original function that means sales of the toy are either
a) if dropping are not dropping as fast
b) if rising are rising faster
So either way sales are picking up.
